yep, that’s right! an actual real update. *winks*
cooper is doing quite well and will definitely be finished up this week to the junk cast stage which then will need to be cleaned up into the refined piece.

xolotl is coming along slowly - but with tomorrow off i hope to get her headcap and ears roughed in.
also, here are pics of the 65cm body i’m planning. both a boy and a girl and the picture really does measure 65cm, and i hope that the finished doll will be about that height. we’ll just have to wait and see!

male torso -

with cooper’s partial resin body to show the height difference between the two -

so sick…. too long since update….

ugh, i’ve spent the last 2 (nearly 3) weeks getting over various illnesses (sinus infection, possibly the flu, stress, ect) and so i’ve fallen WAY behind schedule
i’m finishing up cooper’s molds this weekend (hopefully will have his head cast tomorrow and everything but the leg finished being molded probably monday)
i’m working hard on xolotl, too - but i’ve had to completely redo her leg joints so i’m fighting now with her ankle joint and that’s going slowly… but in good news, her arm is ready to be separated into joints and i’ve got one hand started - which means other than the ankle and arm joints, i just have one other hand, her feet, headcap, and ears to do - which i’m sure i can finish by the end of december and get her molded then too (especially since school ends mid december)
i’ve also started work on my 65cm bodies - they’re just foam right now, but i’ll be working on the boy and girl bodies at the same time, as well as two side projects of mine (my beloved violin boy and a rococo-meets-steampunk half doll)
i’ll probably post pics tomorrow or monday when i find time.
molding’s taking longer than expected….

only because there’s been a couple of minor set backs (like forgetting my mom is going on a week long class and being allergic to the molding compounds and the resin compounds in their uncured state means i can’t pour them myself ><;;;; )
but i do have junk casts of his torso (upper and lower) as well as his tail and have his head, head cap, thigh, and lower leg all ready to be poured for molds. after that it’s his arm, hands, and feet. and then i get to do clean up on the resin casts and what not and remold them.
i’m also working on xolotl, and going to draw out and at least cut out the styrofoam for the 65cm girl body. i also hope that after i get xolotl done and working that i can make some normal legs and redo pierrot and beatrix. i have a lot of doll plans in my head and i know once i get bodies done i can work on heads and optional legs and hands and such for them to make my dolly dreams come true! (can we say 70cm gargoyle male? 65cm skeleton japanese ghost girl? how about a mouthless gothic ballerina? *^^* so excited! )

yep, cooper’s in the process of being molded! *happy dance* his upper and lower torso and tail are all complete and i will be doing his head and head cap in the next day or so. i may have to take a small break from that though if we run out of molding compound (but it would only be until we got more in) - but that means i can work more on xolotl as well as starting my 65cm girl body to go with my head (who still needs ears ><;;;; )
but just wanted to share the update!

yeah, i have a double entry today.
but you’ll forgive me when you see the awesomeness that is basil rathbone! my mom has been working on this head for me for well over a year, and to see him in resin (albeit the “junk” resin cast to be cleaned up) is a dream come true! he is AMAZING!!!!

all primered and ready to go -

well, my mom was preparing to teach a class at a bjd workshop this last weekend in ohio. in doing so, she wanted to test out teaching how to sculpt a head on an armature she made. so following her instructions (all the way up to the point of putting ears on the head - i had to let my clay dry at that point and sand it so my head doesn’t have ears yet) i managed to sculpt this head - which i’m rather proud of. it fits well on larger sd sized bodies and can be either a boy a girl. i’ve refined it some more since taking these pictures, but it still needs some more work (other than ears)
have no clue what to name it - but i plan on working on a body for it after i finish cooper and get further on xolotl.
here it is with a cast of a head my mom sculpted for me off of basil rathbone (*drool* i LOVE that man! ) he still needs cleaning up, but it’s so neat to see him in resin!

and in other news - worked some more on xolotl’s leg and am working on her jointing, also have a picture of eyes in her head (they still need more beveling so the eye will fit in the socket better)

xolotl’s got a leg!

and it works! of course, still have a lot of work to do on her, but i’m happy to see so much progress!!

cooper is just two steps away from having his first casts - well, three since i need to make his feet…. but other than that, he’ll just need to be sanded and coated and then he can be cast. yay!
xolotl is a lot further behind… but she is coming along. i just wish i had more time during the day to do everything!

and xolotl with her new leg - still in the works of course!
